Louisa is a Bristol based artist working across painting and printmaking. Her practise, whilst fundamentally rooted in drawing, explores gesture, mark making, pressure and fragmentation through abstraction, using processes including monoprint and etching. Working intuitively, she builds images through repetition, interruption, transfer and erasure. Recent works examine the tension between structure and atmosphere, with marks emerging, dissolving and reappearing across segmented surfaces. Printmaking plays a central role in the work, introducing mediation and resistance into the image making process. She studied Fine Art at Goldsmiths, University of London graduating in 2008, having been awarded the Warden’s Purchase Prize and previously studied for a Foundation at Byam Shaw School of Art.
